PATRICE IN THE GABAS VALLEY. ARTISANS

Patrice is a unique and independent shepherd, farmer, and rancher who does not rely on machinery, technology, or globalized systems. As a result of a fortunate coincidence, we encountered Patrice during a trip through the French Pyrenees while he was practicing transhumance. We stopped there, and something magical began to unfold between us. By maintaining proper distance and showing the utmost respect for his work, we gradually gained his trust, granting us access to capture the moments reflected in these photographs. Only silence and observation allowed us to undertake this contemplative project since we do not speak the same language.

After two years of following his journey, Patrice has invited us to accompany him on his next transhumance, climbing the peaks of the French Pyrenees on foot. This path, which few still choose to take on foot, serves to feed their flocks and preserve the shared environment.

Patrice has shown us that a life outside the system is possible, rooted in self-sufficiency, craftsmanship, and local trade.

For us, it is a privilege to tell and share this story — a story at risk of disappearing.
