Five centuries ago, St Ignacio, the founder and first general of the Society of Jesus, or the Jesuits, set out on this long pilgrimage. By foot, St Ignacio’s journey would take him from his Basque hometown of Liola to the Catalan city of Manresa. His expedition would leave its mark throughout the world as “The Ignatian Way,” a spiritual, historical pilgrimage that exists today.

My role in this project was to support and help those who document the main stories, some of whom are friends of mine. I had the opportunity to offer them a different photographic perspective by showing what went on behind the scenes. I enjoyed using my photos to show what’s normally left out and give these more intimate, “making of” moments more importance.
